Burning smell from engine after clutch changed?
After hard driving and then stopping, I seem to be getting a burning smell comming from the engine bay. Tbis has only been happening after the car went in for a clutch change. On investigation, there seems to be a very small amount of "smoke" comming from around the turbo area, but there does not seem to be any burning oil.
I wondered if it is something simple like a leaking downpipe or turbo gasket and what I am smelling is exhaust fumes? lthernatively, it is something a little more serious like an oil leak burning and it's burning off the engine or manifold.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Cheer,
Andy

Hi,
Sometimes the rocker cover gasket will go allowing oil to go on the exhaust, causing the burning smell.Failing that if the previous clutch had burn't out it would smell for a while after when warm.

Or.... maybe when they re-filled the gearbox oil they spilt a bit.... the filler/dipstick is right next to the turbo/downpipe.... also, the downpipe may have been oily before it was fitted.......

good answers, but I don't think it's spilt oil because it's been going on for a month or so, and getting worse
I'm not too sure it is rocker cover gasket either, as I've had one of those go and you can usually see some type of "oil slick" underneith the engine. However, I'll check up on this a bit more.

if the filler/dipstick for the gearbox is next to the downpipe it's possible they never tightened it correctly when the box was refilled ?
Also if it's only after hard driving then it could be rocker cover gasket as as the oil heats up it will thin out possibly allowing it to be forced thru the failing gasket
