Apexi Power FC - Boost Control Kit Necessary?
I just received my new PFC from Japan and noticed it has a plug for a boost control kit on the side.
Do I need to buy a boost control kit? bear in mind my car is a MY00 UK with 3 port solenoid fitted.
Also whats the difference between the AVCR and the boost control kit? which is better or can you run both.
There doesnt seem to be any input on the PFC for an AVCR so I guess that the AVCR runs independently to the PFC, so surely the boost control kit is the better option as its controlled directly by the PFC.

the boost control kit is good but the AVC-R is a lot better and they both cost around the same amount of money.
the good thing about the boost control kit is it can be adjusted via the commander so no extra gadgets in the car.
the AVC-R on the other hand is a stand alone unit and has all the control of the boost control kit plus things like rpm adjustment on boost, so if you want your car to drop boost off at higher rpm and run a little more in the mid range the AVC-R can do that.
with the boost control kit you set the boost at, say 1.2 bar, the kit will hold that right through the rev range.

I think its more to do with the earlier cars whose MAP sensor can't see past 1.2 bar, also you can only set max boost to 1.0 on the PFC (MY93-96), so the boost control kit is useful since it comes with a 3 bar MAP sensor as well (IIRC) and so can set one of 4 boost setting via the commander and set targets way over 1.0 bar.
With the later cars it isn't a problem unless you want to run silly amounts of boost.

I've just emails AndyF the same question, I have a 1998 JDM with 3 point selinoid and hopefully Andy with be fitting and mapping later this month.
I asked him for a price, will you let me know if your getting one, I may be able to stretch to one of them as long as it improves performance.
