Getting the cover plate off was the hardest part on my car. I don't know what they used to tighten the bolts up!

I dont think its a good idea to stick an import STi ECU into a UK car though!

What's difficult in removing a couple of 10mm bolts?

Yeah wouldn't recommend as mapped for 102 ron fuel. Really mapped ECU best bet such as power FC. Andy F all in is £750 supply and fit i think.

Ive just come across this thread during a search so I will add my 2p's worth..... Japanese fuel isnt 102RON; thats rubbish. Japanese fuel was similar to our superunleaded when this ECU was made and it only rose to 100RON in the late 1990s. A 1996 STI 'Wagon had a Z4 ECU which will run very well on Optimax; in fact, it was used by Prodrive as the base for the PPP! You can ony use the ECU in a car that runs a TD05 of course...

No they didn't, that was the WRX. An STI ECU is mapped for a stronger STI engine, including I believe STI pistons and definitely has a rev limit in excess of 8,000 rpm. A standard UK engine wouldn't last long at those sorts of rpm's!

Well perhaps the Japanese ECU reference page isnt as good as I remember then, seeing as it clearly stated that the V2 had a Z4! I stand by my comments with regards to fuel and the Z4 itself though.

I forsee a more fundemental problem - 96 ECU (phase 1) has 4 plugs and a 97 ECU has 3 plugs (phase 1.5), also a host of sensor and wiring differences.

Unless it is an early V3 Sti in which case it will fit if you swap the cam and crank sensors but won't run properly because of different MAF, injectors, cams, etc, etc...

Found the reference sheet. The GF8 STI V2 'Wagon uses the Z4... I drive a 'Wagon remember? As an aside; the C2-Series Type-RA and STI-Type RA both use the Z5 which is very very similar.

Fair enough, I guess that means we were both right coming from our own different points of view

i have decided to check my ecu out prior tp getting a scoobyecu. my ecu box has 3b on the lid and a couble row of solder holes in the top right of the photo. i presume that is where the receiver for the daughter board will go. am i on the right track and is the scoobyecu the one for quick road use?
