the z4 is a jap ecu but it will work well with 97ron or more fuel. JDM (at least thats what i think you mean) = japanease domestic market.
Pre 96 ecu cannot be "remaped" but you can fit a piggy back chip to enable the ecu to run an "alternate" map. So in effect they can i guess.

Question

thanks, is there any thing else i need to now. i fitted a jap ecu before, but my car seemed to use a lot more fuel. + the last one had a restrictor on, has the z4 got this. has anyone on here fitted a z4, and what sort of milage do you get. i just want to now if its worth getting.

no the z4 is the last ecu that will fit - and the best. There are afermarket ecus that can be used which are fully mapable but these are £600 plus.
The z4 ecu will have a 112mph limiter on it. The way to get around this is to use a scoobyecu (but that defeats the object) or a kph to mph converter which then lifts the limiter to summot like 170 mph. If you are using this ecu in a uk car then i dont think there is anyway around it.
I use a z4 ecu and can see anything from 180 - 250 miles per tank depending how i drive.
