Default Safe boost ,type R

Hi all,
Do you think it's ok to run 18 psi on my type R? it's only got a few bits on it,D-valve,full de-catt(inc front pipe) manual boost controller and an after market panel filter.
Any help much appreciated,
cheers
Dan

I wouldnt consider running any more boost with the mods you have unless you alter fuelling/timing to match!
If you do, then expect no sympathy when things go wrong!

No Dan i was going to edit the post to say that in order to run that boost im using an apexi power fc with a TD05FE hybrid turbo and 550cc injectors,Hybrid FMIC,SX FPR,gruppe s headers etc etc

I think the safest boost on a standard type r would be around the 1.2bar mark

yep point taken Tony,
i think 1.45 bar equates 20+ psi.
Thanks

Would also get yours checked, as they can run pretty lean after the decat, and as you more than likely know, det is a bit of an issue on these cars as standard (being mapped for 100ron fuel and all)!

as a short term remedy until i can get it on a dyno shall i add octane booster to over come the 100 ron scenario? She's only a weekend car really.
havn't had her long, did a deal with a skyline i owned. One of the best things ive ever done totally and utterely different cars.

Dan,
Optimax + 1ml/L NF will certainly make things safer, without costing too much. You can get reasonable discount if you buy bulk from Roger Clark Motorsport (the UK importer).

I'm intrigued as to your comments about Skyline vs Impreza. I keep toying with the idea of retiring my modified impreza to weekend use (it's done 90,000+ miles)and getting a skyline for day to day use. Which Skyline did you have and what are the pro's and cons of ownership?

Cheers

Simon

Hi Si,
Now theres a tricky one.
Had the Tommy Kaira GTS-T type M for about 12 months.Bought it totally standard apart from the TK body kit.It wasn't my daily driver, probaly did about 4000 miles in a year.I ended up spending about 7,maybe 8 grand on her before i sold her about 2 months ago.It got to the point where i'd have to spend another3/4 grand to get her where i really imagined her to be.I had to draw the line somewhere!
As for a daily driver i'd strongly reccomend.Don't get me wrong they're not too hot on gas but....you know the story. Can be a bit tricky in the wet but cant all cars?
As for mods and the like there's mountains of suppliers just waiting to ****** your hand off.
Once again relability not a problem as long as everything is carried out properly. Also a bit of a bonus they're practicaly being given away at the moment!I thinks it down to over supply of the market and the newish sva legislation.
Happy hunting, feel free to ask any q's about them.
Cheers
Dan

Cheers Dan

What did you spend all that money on? I could do a lot more to my impreza for the cost of the new car + the mod money you spent!

Think I'll have to do a bit of research...

Hi Si,
Yep i do totally understand. To be honest when i first bought her it was trial and error with things i wanted to go on it.First of all had a bit of a blitz phase then hks phase.New wheels,re-spray,seats all the usual stage one/two mods.Bits imported and so on.You could say it was a pretty dear learning curve. In hind sight i didn't make a plan i just bought things when i fancied it.
You could probably pick a decent one up 5/6 grand with quite a bit on it.Try having a look on skyline owners forum. There's quite a few standard ones out there also.
Good luck
Dan
