Question AP/Exedy/Helix/Toda

These are the choices after a too long trawl through the interweb searching for clutches.

I reckon a ceramettallic(?!) paddle clutch will be the way to go aiming for 400lb/ft, I'd prefer organic but I doubt it would last?

All seem to be very similarly priced.

AP seems to be tried and tested, but has a lower torque rating than the rest

I've heard a few early failure storys about exedy, but these could well be unsubstantiated.

Helix is the most expensive

Toda.... I don't know anyone who's ever heard of this make.

Any experences/opinions on the matter? In the absense of opinion I'll probably go with exedy or helix.

Cheers,
Dave

If you have a 6 speed box, then I would go with the AP or STI uprated organic clutch. 5 Speed is trickier, ap organic should be just up to the job, but it won't like lots of drag racing.

Exedy uprated organic is happy with lots of drag abuse @340lb/ft

David@APi warrantees them to a certain output - 400 if memory serves me correct....worth asking him.

You're not that abusive from the videos! AP friction plate is much better once hot, it has a higher metal content, it does however judder more as a result.

Exedy organic is excellent value.

Daz: There is a cheaper 'Exedy' organic which costs around £120 (aka borg&beck). Maybe camskill sent you the wrong one?

Paul: One careful owner, never dragged or tracked

slipping it to the point that it doesn't grip, then slipping some more instead of letting it cool down.

In that case I should have said...

"Exedy uprated organic is happy with lots of drag use with hard launches"

Yes, you get a brand new clutch much sooner than you otherwise would have
