has the feel of the steering changed recently?
You could be losing power steering fluid which can then make the car sound like a rally car with the whirring noise.

Funny thing, my MY03 WRX makes this noise too.
Definitely not the power steering, sounds more "gear-ish"....

*watching with interest* as my manufacturers warranty runs out in march....

Default Siren!!

since ive got me boost back Ive been doing a bit of 'boosting' to say the least. strange thing is there seems to be what i can only describe as an old air raid siren noise coming from the engine! Its been so long since ive had proper boost. I do remember the turbo firing up noise, this time it seems alot louder.

A. Is this a asign of the turbo on the way out?

B. could it be a belt of some kind?

any help is appriciated

Default turbo

the noise sounds like the police siren noise but only at low revs 1500 to 2500 rpm under slow acceleration i thought it could be the turbo just winding up not sure now

LOL...Well, seems there's a few of us with this weird noise. The siren description is excellent....

Bump.....

Hundreds of Scooby owners here... do you all have the "siren" noise up to about 3000rpm or do I need to get in to my dealer before my warranty runs out in March..?!!

Quite a few of us here with the same query, but not enough yet to be able to say it's normal....

Cheers,
Nige.
