Default Thoughts after swapping to centre cat for MoT

Just fitted the original centre (cat) section and standard twin pea-shooter exhaust in place of the 3" decat centre and Jetex back box.

Actually quite surprised, as there seems to be very little, if any, loss of performance! Had to turn the radio down quite a bit as it was pretty quiet with the cat on but it still went well.

I know that the downpipe cat made a noticable difference as it had one last year and the performance drop was very noticeable.
Anyone else

Got me thinking, what affect does the diameter of the pipe work have? And also does the backbox just affect noise or does it have an influence on the power delivery?

cheers

Boxbox affects just the noise really -you may get a couple of bhp, but nothing really noticable...... changing mine did seem to make my spool up slightly "cleaner", but It may have been a placebo effect. The centre pipe won't make a huge difference either, a few bhp. The DP -as you say- is where the action is in terms of performance gains.

Std 2.5 inch pipework is not restrictive untill you get to 350bhp IIRC from experts on here.

That's pretty much what I reckon now. Mines at about 300bhp +/- and the 21/2" pipe work and centre cat seem to work just as well as the 31/2" decat. Just a bit too quiet.

cheers
