Scooby Service @ 90k
Hi,
I have a 96 (p reg) Subaru Impreza 2000 AWD Turbo. it has the 97 revised engine in it due to a problem when it was first purchased as new.
I have only recently aquired the car and am looking at performing a service on it myself. Mainly due to the fact Subaru want at least £800 for this!!!!
So.....my question is...
What exactly would a service include at Subaru (or what needs to be done more to the point!) at 90k and what should be left to Subaru to do (ie - cambelt, ect)
P.S - Whats the best oil to use in the Impreza and viscosity rating too?
Hope you can help lads!
Thanks
Andy

There are quite a few independent Subaru specialists kicking about. I'd try for a price off them for comparison. Depends where you are......I'm sure someone on here will point you in the right direction if you give a location.
I was quoted about £120 for a cam belt change, so that's considerably cheaper than my local Subaru dealer, even though they don't actually seem too bad.
I think the oil is 15W 40 innit??
I was going to use Mobil 1, but then I heard tales of Impreza engines not really liking it.
I use Millers all the time.

change the front crank seal with the cambelt.. otherwise in about 10k miles you'll have to change the crank seal and the cambelt again.
I rate Motul 15W50 300v competition myself.

90k is unfortunately the 'walletbuster' service.
Expect anything from around 550 (specialist) to 900 (main dealer)
I travel to len @ subaru4you in Newbury www.subaru4you.co.uk
It's a trek - however he always does a top job , his labour charges are sensible and is one of the nicest blokes about, so it's worth it imo.
