I thought that there are two O2 sensors on the down pipe, one near the turbo and one near the mid-pipe. What you are describing sounds like your rear O2 sensor. An EGT sensor at this point wouldn't make sense.

Now the up-pipe (before the turbo between the turbo and exhaust manifold) I believe has a EGT sensor, which makes more sense as you will get much more accurate EGTs here (although in the manifold is even better).

I de-catted my 1994 WRX which had an egt sensor on the upper part by the turbo. I was told to remove this and put a bung in it's place. You can get one from Roger Clark Motorsport with very quick delivery.

Ben

Edited - I've had no problems with the CEL light as yet.

De-catted mine about 2 years ago. It had a sensor in the original downpipe which I disconnected then blanked the port on the de-cat downpipe and have had no problems with it.

Unplug it and tie it up somewhere. It's only a "Cat on fire" sensor

It triggers at over 1000deg iirc so just put it out of the way and it'll never trigger, so as far as the ecu is concerned it still works.
