just got my first impreza and must say i love it but its worrying me as when it starts it sounds like a transit van it takes about three seconds of the starter motor turning the engine over before she fires up, had her to a subaru dealer and he said every thing is ok so is this the impreza way or have i got a problem it a 03 2.o sport

I am not technically minded but there was a thread on here a couple of weeks ago about some Imprezas being a bit slow to start in the cold weather and sounding rough until warm. It seem to affect some and not others and was not peculiar to WRX's or STi's in particular. Mine occasionally is like this in the cold, but unless anyone with more knowledge than myself knows better, it would seem to be a characteristic with them.
