Exhaust, Induction, remap with chip or new/piggy ecu should head you towards the 300 mark.

Hi,

If your car has the grey and black seats then yes, you have the z4 ecu. This is the best stock pre 1996 jap wrx ecu you can run. Its safe to use on uk optimax.
For more power I would advise you go for a custom remap at somewhere like scoobyclinic or replacement ecu and custom map from someone like "jolly green monster".
The scoobyecu generic maps are a nightmare to obtain in my experience and they have gone up in price too. Better to spend a bit more and get a custom map IMO.

thanks m8, yeah its got the black and grey alcantara seats. im feeling much better now i know its got the z4....what about buying a chip and installing it and going scoobyclinic for a good rollin road session????? im also keeping the standard airbox and going for a decent panel filter and a de-cat exhaust. what power should i expect from these mods????

thanks

there is a lot you can do for more power using the z4 ecu.

get a de-cat downpipe and performance exhaust(if you don't have one) first as this will free up gas flow.

a performace panel filter is the best(like the STI one) as most induction kits just draw hot air from the engine bay. also remove the bottle from the inner wing as this is also a restriction.

then fit a boost controller like a GBE valve or dawes device (same thing only GBE is cheaper) and set it at around 1 bar boost or just under, this little lot willl give you the best power hike for your money.

above all run the car on optimax, 95 just isn't good enough for these cars!

hope this helps

Thanks for that buddy, whats this dawes device???....surely if i turn the boost up i will have to get the mixture set on the rolling road ..or would the ecu set itself up to match higher boost pressure???? bloody modern technology so im not sure.

ps: where can i get the sti panel filter from?

thanks

the map sensor can handle 1 bar of boost on the standard system no problem so no need to have it set up.

fuel cut (the ecu's safety shut off point) is at 1.05 bar on the Z4 so it can run without problem below that.

a dawes device/GBE valve is a manual boost controller, unlike a bleed valve they are quite accurate.

you can get the GBE valve from Alyn at AS-PERFORMANCE 0191 4103770 he should also be able sort you out with a filter too

Firstly, before you start talking about achieving 300bhp +
i would check the turbo its using.
If it's a TD04 the maximum you will gain is 280 bhp as that is
the maximum the compressor can push.

As for performance ditch the standard ECU and fit an Apexi Power FC
along with a full decat and panel filter (Don't touch an induction kit).

The next step, or really should be the first step is brakes as the standard
2 pots are dreadfull.

its a my95 wrx so it has a TDO5, yes an apexi is a good way to go if you are going for over 300bhp but not the best VFM if you are looking for 280/290

agree with the 2 ots being dreadfull but a good set of discs and pads can work wonders.

But no where near as good as a more powerfull set of calipers.

The calipers are awfull with the power already on tap, increasing
the power of the car further is going to put extra strain on those
components.

An upgrade is essential IMO.

should be as standard but always a good idea to check, had my my93 remapped not long ago and it was struggling to hold onto the boost, turns out upon investigation by the mapper that it had been changed to a legacy ihi type turbo. So I dont have mega power, but it is rapid through the gears upto about 6500rpm (tend to back of then)

Just take 1 step at a time,

I'd advice you on a full de-cat system, will transform the car big time! then fiddle with a re-map if need be.

Oh Hayward & scott is an awesome sounding system.

Hi fred, yeah...ive heard good things about them exhausts. A good system, boost gauge, dawes device and a good rolling road tune should see me right.

thanks
