Info on Timing Belt & Bent Valves Sti7
Hi.
How many teeth out could i timing belt be before the Pistons kissed the Valves. This would be on the exhaust side of the Cams.
Is it possible for the timing belt to slip teeth if it was to become obstructed in some way ???
And finally if snapped whats the worst ???
Thanks
Dean

Oh no !!!
The piston chases the exhaust valve closed, so if the cam slips back more than a few teeth then you can have a set of bent exhaust valves.
If the belt snaps at anything over idle speed the chances are you will damage most of the valves.
What happened ?

According to Subaru more than three teeth and you'll bend some valves or destroy your engine.
Failed cambelt tensioner or cambelt iddlers are a good reason for such problem!
