Angry BURNING SMELL

HI ALL IM NEW TO THE FORUM, GOT MY SELF A CLASSIC TURBO (FANTASTIC CAR) BELIEVE IT OR NOT I HAD A 540 WHICH I SOLD ONCE I DROVE A FRIENDS SUBARU I COULDNT BELIEVE THE DRIVE.

ANY WAY I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD SHED SOME LIGHT ON MY SITUATION, BASICALLY ABOUT A WEEK AGO I GOT MY CAR SERVICED FROM SUBARU STEALER AND NOW EVERY SO OFTEN I CAN SMELL A BURNING COMING IN FROM THE BONNET AREA. I RANG THEM AND THEY SAID IT MIGHT BE SOME FLUID WHICH WAS DROPPED AND THE SMEEL SHOULD GO. DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEAS IF IT COULD BE SOME THING ELSE.

THE CAR DRIVES FINE.

Could be just as they say, spilt fluids on the engine. Another possibility is the rocker cover gaskets do tend to go and leak a bit with age. Usual symptoms are oil dripping onto the hot manifold and burning off, thus giving you the smell. The leaks are sometimes very hard to spot though. If you cannot see anything leaking, then what I would do is keep checking your oil level to see if it drops at a faster than normal rate.

There is a seal around the crank (i believe). Its common on classics, got to get mine done. When your stuck in traffic you will notice the smell of hot oil. Only problem is the seal is behind the cambelts = probably new cambelts = labour. Its got to be done though, cos if it fails - good bye oil - good by engine?
