A little turbo knowledge for a thickie
Can some one tell me which part of this is the wastegate? (assuming its visible) as the supplier says that these turbos are supplied without a wastegate...yet the turbo looks complete to me?

The wastegate isn't visible on that picture.
On that turbo it is integral with casting of the exhaust wheel housing. It provides a channel that bypasses air coming from the uppipe straight to the exhaust so that it doesn't have to go past the exhaust wheel.
The channel has a flap over it (wastegate button) that is opened and closed by the actuator (the bit stuck on the top left hand corner in the picture). That controls when the wastegate is opened and closed to control the boost pressure of the turbo coming out of the compressor scroll (top right hand corner of your pic).
Some turbos do not have an integral waste gate channel, so are supplied without a wastegate. Such turbos require an external wastegate which must be plumbed into the exhaust pipework in parallel with the turbo.

how much hassle is an external wastegate?
the answer is not much at all. It just means custom up and downpipes.
In my case my external wastegate rejoins my downpipe so I get the benefit of the rest of the exhaust system to silence its output. Most don't bother doing that.
External wastegates are often used on bigger turbos as they tend to need to flow more gas through them.
The larger turbos tend also to benefit from rotated mounting anyway so people are forced to buy custom up and downpipes anyway.
Up to 500bhp, there are standard fit turbos with internal wastegates that can still do an excellent job and they will work out a lot cheaper and look more factory.

i think what im getting at is, is a standard turbo, TD04, TD05 etc, an internal wastegate design?
I would like to maintaina stock position on the turbo, so i think that all id need to do then is buy this one with an internal gate

Once again, I have to say, when you are ready to be buying a turbo, the man to speak to again is Mark Aigin at lateral performance. he supplies most of the turbos for the high power cars you will have heard of.
I will say from what I have seen of your goals etc, and from my own experience, if you can stick with standard layout uppipes and downpipes and non rotated turbo with internal wastegates, then do so.
My preference if I had my time again would be a closed deck 2.2 or 2.33, (ej257 for cost saving) with a TD05-20G or a garrett hybrid wheel. Standard pipework, and internal wastegate.

excellent, my build will be around a 2.0 closed deck, and that turbo is based around a garrett GT30 core, so thats positive
