Question SPLUTTERING WHEN SLOWING DOWN

Greatings everyone

my 1998 TypeR has started to splutter/miss-fire when doing between 40-60 mph.

It pulls strongly in all gears, but if I do a steady 70 mph+ for a while, then slow down to a steady 40, 50 or 60 it splutters like a slight miss-fire.

I think my MAF may be playing up, as the revs used to surge and tick overs 600 to 800 rpm.

Or could it be the fuel pump and fuel delivery.

Any ideas !
