How far can I push my 20G ?
Hi there,
My current car spec is:
MY02 STI Type UK
• Milltek 3” exhaust system inc sports cat
• GT Spec Gen II UnEqual Length Headers
• GT Spec Gen II Up-Pipe
• Walbro uprated fuel pump
• SX Fuel Regulator
• TEK3
• TD05/06-20G Turbo
• Power Enterprise 650cc injectors
• APS 725DR Front Mount Intercooler
• RCM Direct Air Box Feed
• RCM / K&N Cone Air Filter
• 3 port boost solenoid
• Breather Mod
• Zerosports Cool Radiator
• Zerosports Cool Thermo
The turbo is profiled to 1.4bar to 4000 rising to 1.5 bar from 4500 to 6000, tapering back down to 1.3 bar by 7000 rpm.
I have seen posts here on SN, with people saying they have been running their 20G's at 1.65 bar.
So the question is (as I need another remap soon) can I/should I, tyr and get the turbo to boost higher ?
Any comments/feedback welcome.
THANKS.

I run up to 1.7 bar through the midrange on mine, no problems so far (and without a DV) in around 10k kms. May be worthwhile trying to eliminate the surge, which should allow full boost sooner (I assume that is why it's set at 1.4 @ 4k rpm currently?). For running more boost at the top end, I'd recommend measuring TB temps to see where the turbo starts pumping hot air - I'm no use here as I run a TMIC, so am running low boost (~1.2 bar) at high revs.

On a 2 litre I run 1.5 bar to 6,500 tapering back to 1.4/1.45.
1 Bar at 3,300 in 4th with a hot turbo/exhaust system and no surge. (now)
The turbo was run at 1.6 then 1.55 for a while but I am not sure there was any advantage whatsoever on my set up at 1.6 bar.
Like Richard says, see where it starts making heat which is obviously the point it has exceeded its efficiency.

I ran the 20G at 1.5 bar of boost, in the midrange you can up the boost if you have no surge issue's to increase torque.
I made 400-420bhp on the 20G and had 1.0bar of boost @2900 rpm in 6th gear and held 1.5 bar till redline of 7500rpm. Upping the boost at high rev's will make hot air and you're max power is around 6000-6200 rpm so useless
