Question DCCD setting on snow?

What DCCD setting (%) do you recommend when driving on snow/slippery conditions? Running it "open" is not an option, but I'm also worried to put a lot of miles on the drivetrain with too much locking set.
I have the Neetronics DCCD controller, so I have the option to automatically increase locking on full throttle and run fully open at low speeds or when braking.

(Classic with 6MT DCCD and Suretrac)

I'm glad you've asked this mate. Was just wondering this myself.

I have an STI Type-R V5 with the DCCD.

Any advice on snow setting?

AFAIK only full locked on snow but if you have to do short manoeuvres better to set it to automatic mode instantly.

Just leave it on open, when you start to lose grip move it towards full lock to re-gain grip?

I always thought its OK to move it while the wheels are spinning as long as all four are on the ground

i think if its on open and you spinning on snow the rear will be spinning faster hence could cause damage moving the dial?

Full lock on snow as I did with mine last year. From my previous house, to go anywhere involved a steep incline. Many cars got stuck half way up the hill whereas I took a slow but constant pace and made it to the top. All 4 wheels will still spin but the car will go better on full lock with snow.
Then find an empty car park and have some fun with the diff open!

In the snow last year, i ran my DCCD on the first orange. The reason being that there was far too much understeer going round roundabouts with it locked anymore.

It's great fun running it full open in the snow if you have a bit of space.

BTW even if you run it fully locked, you won't do it any harm as long as the surface has enough snow covering it. As the tyre can slip reative to the road when going round corners.

You will find it won't turn in very well if fully locked- I tend to run 1st orange in the rare even that we get snow here, or just leave it in the garage as tbh its hopeless whatever the setting.

I have to admit I do some spirited driving to/from work during the winter season, or I go for a ride when snow is falling - just to have fun (We usually have snow from December to March).

I've been caught with the DCCD on fully open on a track day, when it first starts to spin/slide it is difficult to catch. Therefore I want to run more locking...but I have to find some balance between over-/understeer. Running full lock would obviously induce a lot of understeer. At what locking level does understeer start to become noticeable?

In the end, I guess I have to find out myself - but any advice is welcome (I have no DCCD-Auto, as my car is a MY98).

It's best to drive a few laps on different settings and see what you think. I usually have mine set to first orange if it's a bit damp or wet, and second green at other times.

I like a bit of tail out action.

Full lock for straights and half lock for twistys IMHO. If you use the full lock on bends it tends to pull you towards the curb on a slide. Use half lock and the tail will come round nice and easy This is what i found works well in the alps
