Default WHICH FUEL FOR 98 PPP WAGON

Gidday

I have a 1998 UK wagon with the WRSport (PPP equivalent for age) ECU / exhaust upgrade kit fitted. I am running on 95 unleaded at present, but am thinking of coverting to Optimax after seeing a fuel comparison on 5th Gear a few weeks back, and comments on this forum.

I understand a ECU reset will be required, but can I run the PPP engine on this fuel? Info I have looked at does not seem clear. The car is going in for sevicing in 7 days so might book this at the same time if I can clear this up.

Cheers

Prodrive recommend you use 98 ron fuel for best performance but it will run on normal fine. I would expect to see some performance increase.

Cheers. I assume I can just fill it up and the ECU will take care of everything?

I do recall reading somewhere that its recommended to reset the ECU around the time you fill your first tank of a new fuel - or have I got it all wrong?

Any advice appreciated, still new to these things.

The ECU will eventually adapt after 30 miles or so. It'll be better if you use ALL the old fuel, make sure the petrol light is on or have a can of optimax with you. Then fill the tank.
To reset the ECU, easiest way is to disconnect the battery for an hour or so, then when it detects optimax it will learn much quicker.

Blimey!

Always use the best octane fuel you can afford/find.

Cheers
