in short, reprogramming the ECU to take full advantage of engine components and modifications. The PPP that you have (ive been reading elsewhere on the forum) is an "off the shelf" ECU software upgrade which is designed to work on all STIs with a sports cat downpipe and center decat.
However, it is still a map with a relatively large safety margin built in, meaning that the turbo can boost harder if you wanted and the injectors could supply more fuel.
A new map controls everything thats going on in the engine, so if you advance ignition timings, up the boost and give it a bit of extar fuel, then in general terms the car will produce more power.
Thats a very simplistic view, but essentially your reprogramming the engines brain to produce more power
simple eh?

youll be hard pushed to do it on the standard turbo, i think the very best VF34 or VF35s will do is 350, and thats on a given day, so if youve got the spare cash, maybe get something a little larger, if you go to WRC tech then they will advice you an APS SR40 without doubt, but if you go anywhere else then something along the lines of a TD05 18g or 20g will definitely sort that out

just remember also though that just because the scoob would have 343, still wouldnt make it as fast as the M3 necessarily, due to 4wd transmission loss....to guarantee a match in straight line pace then perhaps around 375-380 may be more realistic.
Im not sure what the M3s kerb weight is, but the STIs is 1480kgs from memory....

Hi Bud, (Lister from SOX.....)
Are you confident that your turbo hasnt been uprated? as ive never head of a standard STI turbo going anywhere near that high....least of all at 1.35bar?
I do stand to be corrected mind.....

Yep 99.9% sure it's a stock turbo, I haven't changed it and have no reciepts for it, I recieved the car stock so i'm guessing it's still stock turbo, it looks rusty but goes like hell, the other night it was boosting to 1.55 and holding 1.45 bar. Dyno'd at 302 whp so using 25-26% tansmission loss 380bhp

I think that precedes the twin scroll era just so id stab at the VF34.
Just out of interest, and please dont take this the wrong way.....but are you sure its 302 at the wheels and not the fly? because other than that youd have to be running like 120ron fuel to generate 380 with a standard turbo :|

Definatly it's at the wheel because after it was done, i got the sheet and was disapointed that after all that i'd only got 37hp more. He then corrected me and said the book figure of 265 is at the fly, my 302 is at the wheels and to take a 25-26 percent increase for the 4wd transmission loss. It's mapped on optimax. I must be lucky, I thought that this power was common amoung new age cars, My tourque isn't up there though, Can't remember but i think it is 330ish. New turbo and FMIC hopefully to come in the spring!

03 plate is a twin scroll iirc.
My 54 plate twin scroll with 3" system with high flow cat peaking at 1.51bar produces these results from the Delta Dash Dyno function:-
Maximum Wheel Power: 269.2 BHP @ 5878 RPM
Maximum Wheel Torque: 289.0 LbFt @ 4218 RPM
You sure yours is standard

Ive had just over 300 bhp with a TD04 turbo, headers, fuel pump and a TSL remap before now, So a Stock STI Turbo is more than capable
Alloy, you talking of a Euro Import?

if any of you fellas want to go on the RR day alloy is talking about pm me. i have a couple of dates but jan21 is likely. (this is re arranged because our original date was cancelled)
Alloy, i must admit i was a bit shocked when you sent me the specs. I dont doubt you for one minute and it should be interesting to see.
WRC tech and G-force both have identical dynos so all other things being equal should be as accurate.

Oh yea of little faith we shall let the dyno do the talking I have a printout somewhere in the mess i call home then shows 300whp Although if we aren't anywhere near that on another dyno, some serious questioning about my source's integrity will be raised.
