Default Coolant tank

I am a bit confused here. I have a small top up tube for the coolant and also a cap on the engine for the coolant. There is also a button on the cap which when pressed and the car is warm forces coolant back down the pipe and drips all over the floor. I am a bit concerned as I dont want the car to overheat.

Thanks

The tank is a header tank, the upper most outlet of this leads (via a rubber tube to a small metal pipe that runs over the top of the radiator to another rubber tube) to the expansion/ overflow tank (this is next to the battery).

I think from your description, the above is not connected up.
