Default Popped MY99, options??

A friend runs a MY99 UK PPP and its gone bang.. so it now requires a new short motor.

Due to a house move he hasnt got access to t'Internet at present so he's asked me to put up a post to try and get a wee bit of advice and help about the route to go.

His car is completely standard apart from:

PPP
Aftermarket (Possibly HKS) Centre & Rear Box
HKS Induction Kit
VTA D/V
Knocklink
Triple Defi's (Oil Temp, Oil Pres. & Boost Pres.)

He has the following parts available to him:

Walboro 255
Sard Fuel Pressure Regulator
Sard 800cc Injectors (Originally for a Celica GT4)
FMIC + Piping (Bought for 2.0 Application)
GReddy Profec B SpecII Boost Controller

What he is considering doing is:

USDM 2.5 Short Motor
De-Cat Down Pipe
Gruppe-S Headers
Uprated Organic Clutch
Fitting all above "parts available to him"
Re-Map/Replacement ECU from Andy F

Can he run/is it worth running, the standard TD04 Turbo with that set-up??

Is worth shelling out for the 2.5 rather than a 2.0 if he isnt intending to push it beyond an absolute max of 350, he wants a reliable, genuine, un-stressed 320bhp and at least 300ft/lb from his car??

From what I've managed to find using the Search Function, he should be able to bolt everything up to to the larger bottom end without trouble... using standard replacement parts that would be used in a 2.0 build anyway. (Gaskets, etc)

Can he get the PPP ECU re-mapped for the spec he is considering or does he have to go aftermarket like an Apexi PFC, whatever he decides it will be Andy F that maps his car for him.

Cheers,
Grant

Get him to check with his insurance first about using a 2.5, they may not want to know.

The ecu is fine, although he may want to look at the prices of PPP ecu's to see if would be worth buying a standard UK99 ecu and selling the PPP one.

Get him to talk to AndyF, since he will know a good route to take. It will probably involve a turbo swap though, TD0516g should be a straight swap and will give him the figures he is after on a 2 litre.

2.5 shortblocks are, what £1200 +vat?

For the same money he could get a 2.0 STI bottom end from Powerstation and a 2nd hand TD05 FE.

That plus his mods (I'd go ECUtek if he wasn't to mod further) would get his goal. He wouldn't need the 800 injectors either, stick with the 440s
