Default ecu remapping on a 1995

The car is a wrx sti RA (1995)

Can the ECU be remapped or do I need an aftermarket ECU?

If so... whats recomended?

You would need an aftermarket ecu, either power fc, link, or scoobyclinic do one as well.

Lots of people recommend the power fc, and thats why Im getting one fitted and mapped within a few weeks!

Depends what power and protection you want. I'm having my JDM STI2 fitted with a Link ecu by Len at Subaru4you in Newbury. This measure protects against a faulty or failed maf sensor.

the phase 1 has one of the most reliable MAF sensors.. one on my own car has done around 160,000miles on the same MAF sensor.

I wouldn't chose a Link ecu for some ideal of extra safety with no MAF sensor on a phase 1.

in laymans terms the maf measures the volume or air entering through the intake after the air filter, and therefore sends signals to the ecu which will calculate what fuel it needs for that given airflow.
A faulty maf means the ecu may get no signal or incorrect signal which could result in engine running lean and therefore probably causing a fair bit of damage to it.

Other question answered, Subaru4you is first rate and the only place for you to go in Newbury. I driv there all the way from Fleet!! Do a search on the board to get rave reviews about Len at Subaru4you.
Cheers
