Question Whining???

I've searched this to death and the majority of suggestions is power steering fluid but checked that and its fine.

Its whining when lifting off and coasting or if it's revved when stationary. I've linked to a couple of sound clips (apologies for the quality - no.3 is best). The old "chuck the wife out then" trick made no difference.

Only thing I know isn't right is a creaking clutch release bearing - it still makes the whine if the clutch is depressed.

Any suggestions welcome??

Thanks.

Neil

If it was the PS fluid it should only whine when the steering wheel is turned - mine does that.

Have you listened under the bonnet whilst a m8 revs the car? What about alternator or drive belts?

Thanks Ozzy.

Couple of guys on SIDC suggested the turbo - when its revved to 3000 rpm and engine switched off the whine continues and eventually stops. As this is the only thing still spinning (belts/pulleys/pumps stopped etc) it sounds like they may be right.

It was also suggested that it sounds like a normal VF turbo spinning down.

Maybe just didn't notice it before......

Cheers,

Neil

That would make sense Neil. Haven't heard one myself so no idea what they should sound like. Never heard anyone mention it though. Might be worth whipping it off and have a look at it's condition - especially the blades.

mines whining and its either the alternator or power steering bearings, mine only does it after a sustained highish reving , ie motorway or a good thrash
