It will not go up to 2000 rpm and the engine may easly stall. This what happened to me on a MY98

you can get lots of symptoms from a knackered maf, with some the cel won't come on. My 95 sti has a slight hesitation when coming on boost, no cel and it turned out to be a knackered maf. This also caused detting.
