Engine troubles
Hi guys, seem to have a big problem with my 99 scoob. on the way home from work the other day i noticed smoke coming out the exhaust. Managed to get home but by this time my whole road was filled with smoke. Switched the engine of and noticed smoke coming out from under the bonnet and around the turbo area. Wen i try and the start the car it cranks over like it has low compression then fires up and procedes to throw huge plums of smoke out the back. At idle it seems to be mis fireing but wen the revs are brought up slightly the mis fire seems to clear. Oil was changed about a week ago and the level is now on the min of the dip stick.
Any insight into wat the problem might be would be appreciated

Oh no, that doesn't sound good mate- Give David at API Engines a ring- he's a scooby engine specialist. http://www.apiengines.com/index3.php I hope it's not a melted piston!
Good luck.

as above i would suspect a cracked/damaged ring or more likely a melted piston??
you may be lucky and it could be a turbo oil seal, you would need a compression test as a min. to diagnose for defo

Thanks for that NS04.
Sounds like a melted pistone from the description although Alyn is correct it could be a seal in the turbo. On a scale of ten more likely to be piston.
hall84 If you are anywhere near us at junction 12 of the M40 we can take a look see and advise or you can call me for a no nonsense / no obligation chat.

There seems to be a large number of TD04's with damaged seals at the moment, i have changed 4-5 in the last two months.
Exact symptoms.
Take one of the cam breathers off and see how much pressure is coming out of the cover..
