Default Coil Pack

I think my coil packs are on there way out. Is there any way to test these. Also is my coil pack the thing on the middle of my intake manifold with the 4 wires comming out going to the sparks. I have changed the sparks but the car just jumps and dies when I am booting it

Default Coil Packs

The coilpacks are bolted over the plugs m8. At the end of the HT leads, you had to undo them to change the plugs. What model car is it you have, I have a spare set for early WRX ;-)

All cars with have a 'coil pack' as such, the early ones just had a coil over plug arrangement. From the description tho its sounds like the car is a MY97/98?

It's quite rare for this type to fail. What boost is it hitting when it dies and what is controlling the boost, what rpm etc. It may not be the coil pack.

Oh and early cars don't have HT leads, the wires you are taking about go to the coil, which being directly on the plug means no HT leads.

No its defo got leads. I am unsure what boost its at because its not got a gauge. What controls the boost and can I adjust it. There is nothing extra that has been put on the car which controls the boost. Also why does this happen only when hot and I have give it a bit of stick.

Thanks

Default HT Leads

Yip sorry M8, I meant the wires to the coilpacks (on the plugs as you say). Don't know what they're called though.

LOL... they're called wires. Same as the ones that go to the other sensors in the car

What plugs did you put in, only reson i ask is because a mate of mine had the same problem when he fitted NGK plugs and it was pulg blow out when the turbo came on full boost. This was sorted with a set of HKS 40i's. Just a thought.

You really need a gauge. There could be a bleed value under the bonnet and you wouldn't know about it.

If it is standard boost NGK PFR6s which are the standard fit plug would be fine, no need for expensive (and some would contest to fragile) HKS ones.... which are infact Densos. If the boost has been increase NGK PFR7s are ideal.
