Default No boost control from Power FC

I've had an AVC-R & AFC on the car for a couple of years but sold them to finance a PFC. I know you're thinking that I should've kept the AVC-R but as its an MY98 I was expecting it to work fine using the OEM soloniod but all I'm getting is the actuators 0.6

I've tried setting the boost control on and off but still nothing so the only thing I can think of is that I've plumbed in the OEM soloniod wrong.

I have plumbed the bottom hose from the solonid to a 'T' then one going to actuator and one to turbo housing. The hose out the side to intake manifold. Is this right?

Can anyone think of any other possible causes?

OEM 2 port soleniod i guess.

The one you have connected to the inlet manifold.... that is definately wrong. That should go to the black plastic intake pipe (i.e no positive pressure).

Boost sucks! I've tried lot of things to sort out my boost problems with no success.(MY98) I've nothing left to do anymore.

Boost control on mine is excellent, no problems at all. Been rock solid on what ever i have set it at.... once i've got the duty cycle close enough. I do like to set the duty a little higher to get a nice midrange spike which settles at high revs.

In the end I tried to adjust the actuator arm if thats the problem. Now while PFC reads 0.44 bar Defi boost gauge shows 1.0 bar !!

Sounds like your map sensor is on its way out.... it shouldn't be like that .

Tony.

Its just the standard 2 port MY98 soloniod.

Sorry I think i got a bit muddled. It does come off the intake not the inlet.

I had a similar problem with mines. Has you car had a FCD? It turned out to there was a resistor/diode in the map sensor wiring on the ecu side, giving false readings.

The standard ECU was superchipped (or something similar) by the previous owner and I was able to run above 1.2 bar happily so this must've somehow incorporated an FCD but i'd have thought this was in the old ECU somewhere?

I've recently been told it could be that the restrictor in the actuator>boost solenoid hose is no longer in there but I'd have thought I would've at least had some control (all be it inaccurate)?

Superchips basically used a crude boost clamp... these were not installed in the ecu iirc. Trace the MAP sensor signal wire from the ecu to the sensor and you'll probabaly find something butchered somewhere. Does the boost given by the apexi commander match that seen on your boost gauge?

Resistor not being there would probably give a boost spike, not limit it to 0.6 bar.

It wasn't actually a superchip. The ECU had a motorsport engineering sticker on it and inside was an eeprom chip about 20x10x10mm.

I assumed this only altered boost though as it was not the size of a "baby board" type remap and as i said it allowed me to run over the 1.2bar.

I'll trace the wire tomorrow but when fitting the AVC-R & AFC i've spent alot of time upside down in that footwell and i'm sure i would've spotted it lol

Don't look only in the footwell, engine bay too.

Never heard of Motorsport engineering so no idea what the chip would have done unfortunately.
