Default Wastegate help i think

I call upon the grate ones yet again....

Guys i'm considering changing my waste but not sure wot im letting myself in for.
Do any of u know the size of my wastegate (93 classic import RA)?
Do i have to change it 4 the same size?
Is it a hard job?
Wot does it entail, is it a straight swap?

All ur info is greatly appreciated

I've got a feeling you mean dumpvalve, not wastegate, it's best to know what you're talking about 'before' you start changing things.....

A wastegate is a valve that controls the exhaust flow to the turbo. If the wastegate is closed, all of the exhaust gas goes to the turbo, spooling it up and creating boost. If the wastegate valve is opened, exhaust gas coming from the motor bypasses the turbo, therefore the turbo doesn't spin as much, and boost isn't created. The wastegate regulates the amount of boost being created by opening its valve and bypasses exhaust flow, when the given boost pressure signal is obtained....

is that about right.......??

A dump valve goes PPPPPppsssshhhhh Right??

so i guess my Ra dont have a wastegate then from the confusion here!

although im NEW to Scoobies, im not new to Turbo'd cars, I know wot im talkin about, just dont know how to change it cos i think mine is sticking..

Again sorry if i confused u

It would seem you do a bit.... the watsegate is an integral part of the turbo, and as i understand it, isn't changeable, BUT the wastegate actuator is..... this is simply bolted to the turbo, and opens and shuts the watsegate.....your car definately has a wastegate!

Your ra will be fitted with a td05 turbo. As found on most pre 96 classics.
The wastegate is not upgradable as far as i am aware! It can of course wear or fall out of adjust ment i.e stick open or shut or fail to open or shut properly. If you want to mess with the boost of the car (which i suspect you do) then what you will need is a boost controller either manual or electronic. These are not the best method of extracting more power from a turbo car though. Ideally youll want a ecu chip to overide the factory ecu map or even better a new ecu which can then be used to tweek the fueling, boost, ignition etc.

I do have a boost controller but its still messing about.. I only running 10psi, and i think the RA limit (factory) is 12 so im well in.

Recommendation on "the right ECU" i know there plenty out there but i here so many "not so good things" about most.

Could i just swap my ECU for a english spec?
