Unhappy Bonnet not closing :(

Checked the oil then closed bonnet and it won't close. It latches the top latch so it doesn't fly open but it won't close fully. I've checked nothing is blocking the catch etc but am puzzled. Is this a common problem and any suggestions? I'm pretty useless mechanically though.

Not sure if yours is a classic but check the release lever inside the car, sometimes mine use to stay in the open position as the rubber grommit that holds the tension of the cable had slipped out (also try checking behind this lever following the cable.

mine has started to do the same thing, an '03. I keep meaning to go to the dealer, but have found that if I give the heavily sprung catch a few pokes with a screwdriver the bonnett will shut properly!

Had the same thing happen on my MY00 classic. Sprayed some WD40 on the latch mechanism where the bonnet catch fits it. Gave the mechanism a good wiggle to soak it in and it worked fine after that. Looked like there was a load of grease on the latch mechanism which had collected loads of dirt / fine gravel and was preventing it from operating properly.
Hope that helps.

Mine did the same. Look down at the latch and you will see a little pawl that holds it shut. This is moved by the cable to open it. You'll probably find its full of crap and a bit sticky. As Jim b says a bit of WD40 to clean it up and give the little pawl part a good working with a screwdriver and it should be fine.
