Default whining noise

Not had my STi ver5 import for long around 5 months, it had a service 3 weeks

ago and I have started to notice a whining noise when I take my foot of the accelerator, almost like a toy car that you wind up, let go, and hear it slowing down.

Also when I’am above seventy and change into fifth gear I feel a slight crunch, are these both related? or is it possible I need a new syncro mesh or perhaps the fifth gear nut tightening.

Any help would be most appreciative.

Thanks Joe.

there is a slight whine in my car also that could be similar to what you describe, it matches engine speed and not road speed. havent been unduly worried by it, putting it down to transmission noises...though sure someone will want to give me a scare by replying to this and saying that the prop is gonna jump off the car or something! ;-) car recently had gearbox and diff oils changed so think if there was a prob it would have showed up in some way....

Easy get rid of the wife it worked for me

It's possible that changeing from 4th to 5th with a crunch could be the synchromesh unless you have a dragging clutch which would also probably give you problems engageing first when stationary, never heard of a 5th gear nut though

do a search on the 5th gear nut - it's apparently quite an easy fix. well, easier than a rebuild anyway!
