Default STi Engine

Ok.....

Ive blown the engine in my MY00 classic and am looking at putting an sti engine in to it. Ive found one out of an STi version 2 with 45000 miles on it. Will this fit in ? obviously i would need a re map but are there any problems with these engines or should i look for something else.

Yes it does have forged pistons & rods.
Keep your heads with the correct h.gaskets with the short v2 sti engine should work.
The v2 sti heads have a inline inlet manifold bolt holes where as your my00 heads have offset bolt holes for the inlet manifold.

All the electrical connections are different on the early inlet manifolds to the later ones, also the manifold stud pattern is different, so you can't use your inlet with the sti heads, you'd need to use your heads and all the elctronics, if you did that it should fit fine, and would not need a remap as you'd be using all your original bolt on bits..... but you wouldn't gain any performance that way....maybe just a bit of reliablility, but the there are those who say the sti's aren't that reliable anyway, so many big ends going n all that....

John - I looked at the same engine last week, with exactly the same idea as you.
My engine has killed it's crank so the stronger internals fro the STI would have
been nice.

In the end i took advice from David at API Engines, then decided against it.

API are now doing a full re-build for me !

If only it were that simple, and i don't think a tek of any king will run a complete early engine, all the sensors are different, it'd be far easier to swap the heads and inlet etc....
