STi3 into classic wrx jdm?
Any problems dropping an STi3 MY97 engine into a 94 wrx ?
The STi 3 has top coil pack & plug leads, guess soon swap over to coil packs to suit OEM wiring loom?
Anything else need attention, think it is currently front entry turbo but soon add a 90 degree samco or fit the old 90 degree turbo to it..
Would the red inlet manifold the older WRX engine?
Would a remap be needed?

You could put yout existing inlet manifold on and it would a straight swap. If you wanted to use the v3 inlet manifold too, the only real problem you will have is the throttle position sensor which on the earlier car has a switch built in to trigger the idle control. You could reuse your existing coil packs no problem by retaining your engine loom. If you want to, you can put a microswitch on the throttle to add the idle switch functionality and you would be sorted. You could then run a front entry turbo arrangement.

Thanks for the fast reply Paul.
Any real benefits of the red STi manifold, in terms of flow or performance ( guess it allows the front entry by being a little higher on the legs? ) and is it stud compatible?
Also, would swapping over throttle body assemblies/TPS fix the idle switch issue?
If not, what symptoms would it have without the idle control microswitch? ( I am on Apexi PFC ).
Thanks again

If you are on PFC then the idle switch ought not to be a problem, you just need to reverse the sense of the TPS sensor. The v3 inlet manifold is arguably worse for flow, but I think with a front entry turbo you will be ahead overall.

On my 95 WRX Japanese import, there is a microswitch on the accelerator pedal that goes directly to the ECU. I find it interesting that it's not listed in the UK wiring manuals, but it is in the Japanese manuals. Is this used for idle control?
Thanks,
Rob
