Question Front Oil Crank Seal

How easy is this to change?

What is done after taking the covers off the cambelt to get this done?

Thanks

remove auxilliary belts, cam covers, timing belt, and then remove the front crank pulley to gain access to the seal which is located in the front of the oil pump............

Is the timing belt sprocket tight to remove from the crank?

What do you clever guys use to pull out the old oil seal?

Thanks

the timing belt sprocket comes off easily.

easiest way to remove the seal is unbolt the oil pump and push it out from behind, as its captivated in the oil pump.

just make sure you clean every thing down after and use good quality sealant on the pump sealing face when you reassemble it. torque of the bolts is 12NM IIRC

Or drill the seal (very carefully) with a 2,, or so drill then srew in a couple of self tappers and pull out with pliers.

A large deep socket (or similar) is also useful to press the new seal home - if you don't get it right ie slightly on the **** it'll leak and you've gotta repeat the whole process. I was VEEEEEEEEEEEERRRYY careful (especially with the amazing one shot wonder later model cambelt tensioner)....

yes you can do it that way (same as the rear) but as you say when you are trying to get the seal square on the crank and in the retaining bore as well its east to damage it.

the pump is only 5 or 6 bolts, and with it off you can be a bit more heavy handed. just bang away until you feel it seated correctly.
