Default smoke n smell

Hi folks

had a job done today by the none franchise Subaru garage who sold me the car as there had been a oil leak reported on the o/s/f drive shaft.

(Due to certain reasons I decided to have Subaru Inspect the vehicle after I bought the car a couple of weeks ago)

whilst driving home, everytime I stopped got a slight burning smell, hard to describe but a little like "new oil" but sweeter.

popped the bonnet and saw a fine clear smoke coming from under the turbo, I presume from around where the job has been done.

This seem to dissapear after a couple of minutes but the smell was still there.

Drove around for a while longer, still got the smell, popped the hood,no smoke but still a smell.

any Ideas

thanks

99% sure that'll be the regular Cam cover gasket, it seems they all do it at a certain age or there abouts.......

Why would this appear when they have just done a job on the drive shaft?

smell wasn't there before I dropped it off

Unless they have spilt some oil on the turbo shield?

(ps - complete none techy so please be gentle)

Could be spilt oil i guess, the oil dipstick/filler is right next to the turbo.. so there's a good chance it could be that aswell...

Ok

Subaru checked the car out which had been repaired by another garage

Appears they have overfilled the gearbox as they had to drain out 1 litre !!

Also the original gargage had spilled the gearbox oil everywhere

Looks like I've still got a problem somewhere

when the car is hot and I stop, smells of new hot oil, only lasts for about 30 seconds then goes

repaeats every time I stop

This came after the garage (not Subaru) had done the job on the front o/s driveshaft and when i took it to subaru for a check over as I wasn't happy with the original garages work, they diagnosed a spill/overfill of the gearbox and wiped off what they could

was expecting the oil to have burnt off by now (400 miles later)

any ideas why this would still be happening after the driveshaft job?
