Question MY03 - Increasing the fuel pressure

Dear Scoobynet'ers,

From reading various posts a popular mod to increase fuel pressure is the replacement uprated Walboro fuel pumps.

A quick technical question ... if you get a higher flow fuel pump surely this alone will not deliver more fuel? I fully understand that the more pressure at the injectors the more fuel will flow for the same duty cycle.

My theory:
  • If you are still using the standard OEM fuel pressure regulator then surely that is what is controlling the fuel pressure 'seen' by the injectors?
  • Let's say you uprate the fuel pressure regulator, would the ECU not compensate as it monitors the fueling? Perhaps the answer is different when the ECU is in closed or open-loop mode?
Would really appriciate if someone could explain the logic on this one.

Cheers,
-Steve.
