Default Standard 97 UK Turbo, First good mods and turbo info required

Hello All

Have a few questions for all you informed peeps out there.

My friend has just purchased a MY97 2.0 Turbo 80K miles and is looking to get a bit more power from it without breaking the bank and engine.

I am familiar with the older Imports and not UK specs so hence the following questions.

THis car is rated as 208 BHP, is this what they are or is it actually more than that.

It runs 13 PSI / 0.9 Bar does this car have the TD04 or TD05 as standard?

First mods are :-

Hi-flow Panel Filter

Exhuast system. (1. to release that loverly sound 2. for more power & better spool up) Advice needed here on wether best to do just cat back system, or get rid of cat and do full decat system, What effect will this have on ECU and would it need a 'Cel' fix? If going full decat turbo back system, is there anything else to take into consideration?

Obviously run car on 'Optimax'

Is the UK ECU capable of fueling if the boost pressure was raised slightly to say 1.1 Bar using boost controller. A boost gauge is allready fitted.

Would be looking to get to about 275 BHP and a bit more torque than standard. Looking at above mods what BHP would this achieve.

Also if it does have a TD04 on it, what can you realistically expect to get with this turbo compared to a TD05...

Obviously a 'knock link' would have to be fitted for safety...

Any more ideas/Info would be appreciated

Cheers

Hi there
The turbo is a tdo4.
Money permitting a new system from the turbo back is best. Do a search regarding the ecu issue, I know some are running decats w/o it being necessary to have a remap.
The ecu in my97-8 cars are not as easy to alter as the earlier cars, ppl have opted for PowerFC or the Power Engineering remap.
See this very helpful thread:

Hello

Cheers for replies

So as it has a TD04 fitted, with a panel filter, full decat exhuast system and a remap what roughly would this produce BHP/Torque.

Also so is this car at standard only 208 or whey they a bit more than that and what torque would it rnning at the mo.

If going for full decat exhaust, panel filer and remap. would it be better to try and get a good S/H TD05 and what difference would this make compared to the smaller TD04?

Cheers
Rob
