Default Airflow through bonnet scoop

The bonnet scope appears to be really effective because of size alone. Looking under the bonnet though, I see the cool air travels down through the intercooler, and then? Is there a smooth passage for the air out of the engine bay. If not then I'm afraid the bonnet scoop is more for asthetic apppeal than anything else. Also the air moving down from above the bonnet to the underside of the car will increase uplift right?

just wondering
