Default maf sensor - fmic

Hi, just been under bonnet now of my new motor ('95 sti 2 ra) and have noticed a sensor underneath the front mount hardpiping!(just above front of gearbox) there is a brown and black wire going to sensor. the black goes to earth and the brown is just hanging there and I can't see anywhere it can go to!
what sensor is this?
is it only meant to have one wire connected?

the car has a gems ecu
and i haven't driven any miles in it yet (done about 30miles on recent rebuild)

I don't want to drive it it in case it is maf or something which could totally destroy a newly built engine

cheers guys
Mark.

Ita an air temp senor, should be connected back to the Gems ecu for charge temp monitoring. With that length of cable it was probably connected to the knock sensor wiring at some point.
