Personally would not really take the risk of running an Sti ecu in a uk car, its asking for trouble.

Not possible as ther was not uk sti until 2002 and that ecu will not fit your car.

The PPP cars of 98 and 99 came with a STI badged ECU

If the car is running without swapping the cam and crank sensors then it is a PPP ECU

260hp as std as opposed to 220 odd

If it is a PPP car then nothing to worry about, if it is a normal UK turbo then i would source the additioal parts to complete the PPP

IIRC you are looking for the Samco type turbo to intercooler hose, if the hose is plastic then it is not a PPP complete car

More clued up with the WRX imports than the UK cars

You sure you don't have the Prodrive Performance Pack on the car. This used the STi ECUs.

97/98 ppp, possably used an STi ecu, the MY99/00 defintately did, you would have a different back box and exhaust over the standard item, the b/b will have prodrive on it, you should also have some samco blue intercooler piping (y piece).
Power output will be up from 208bhp to around 240bhp and there should also be a certificate to say its been fitted with the performance pack.

And then someone like Tony turns up who knows more than me

I know of a white 1998 UK turbo with the PPP STI ECU, intercooler pipe and backbox
