Default Worth replacing the plug leads?

Is it worth changing the plug leads even if there are no problems in that vicinity?

I guess mine are still the originals and even if they aren't they've got to be at least six years old. Gas consumption is pretty dire at the mo (20mpg) but the only reluctance to start comes about when the car's been standing in the sun for a long time.

If it's worth replacing them, any recommendations?

The O/E are good quality and better quality than some super dooper replacements so I suggest you stick with them unless a missfire develops, directly attributable to the leads.

I'd only replace them if I was suffering from a missfire and already changed the spark plugs. There is no other reason to change them.

Thanks guys.

S'funny cos Honest John - Saturday Telegraph - reckoned that they were a known weakspot on scoobies (though he was responding to a specific question on a non-turbo). That was the only reason I thought about replacing them really.

Are there any worthwhile upgrades for the ignition? It's something that I can't remember being talked about much before.

I'm probably missing something here but Impreza turbos and I imagine other models don't have HT leads. They have coil packs over each cylinder. So unless there is a misfire I don't see the need to change them.

BTW that 'honest john' bloke knows diddly squat about anything! Hes a complete ****!

Do you and you mates all drive Subarus? This is a Subaru forum and I was talking about subaru models. And I think I'm not missing as much as you in that case.

Belmondo,

I suggest you learn a bit more about different Impreza models. Your knowledge is sadly lacking in even basic areas

Belmondo, I also suggest that if you know nothing say nothing!

MY93-96 = Individual COIL PACKS on each cylinder
97-98 = Single Coil pack on Centre of Inlet Manifold
99-00 = Single Coil Pack on NS of Inlet Manifold

Russell

ps - think it over before replying as you've already pi##ed off a few people with your pretend knowledge. I f you don't want to hear it from us, we'll get Bob, Pat, AndyF, Pavlo or some of the other seasoned hands to tell it to you straight!

and I'd love you to tell us that they are talking rubbish
