Has anyone heard of P1 Cranks failing @ 50,000 miles.
I took my car into a main dealer for a 52,500 mile service. After 50 miles up the road heard a knocking noise and reffered the car back to the dealer and was told that the Crank was knocking. To my knowledge the car has never been on a track day but I am the second owner and purchased it with full dealer history.
Would appreciate anyones views.
What you mean says it all???Why should it happen just after an oil change???I had the cam belt changed early as well on the same service??ive just been reading somethin on another web site about this will happen if the dealer has not done the oil change correctly???wot do they mean???
um just do a search for big end failure.. unfortunately all too common.
But i thought the cranks on the p1 were nitrided with bigger journals??All the rods and pistons are forged steel not casted??Ive heard of early wrx models with crank failure and piston slap on around 1998 model after 20,000 miles but only heard of the p1 failing due to driver abuse around 70,000 miles. The clutch has out lasted the crank dont sound right to me!!!!!!
