Default Changing Spark Plugs - fiddly access

Changing my first set of plugs on the scoob and I'm struggling to find the right combination of extention and plug socket to get a ratchet on there that's deep enough yet will clear the chassis rails. I'm clearly going to have to purchase another 1/2" extension but wanted to ensure that I buy the correct length. Can anybody recommend an appropriate length / type that will do the job?

cheers

I find 1/2" too cumbersome and use 3/8" drive instead. A reasonable 3/8 socket set isn't expensive and in mine, the short extension is about right.

Another useful addition is a ratchet with a pivoting head. This means the ratchet can be held at an angle other than 90o. Sealey and others make them.

Still a fiddley job even with the right tools.

There are threads ref this, try a search.
I undo the nearside ones from underneath.
Some here suggest taping the extension to the plugsocket or removing the rubber liner because sometimes, once the plug is tightened you pull the extension off the socket when trying to remove both and it's a b@stard to get the socket out.
Yes 3/8" is best.

I bought the professional spark plug removal set (in black box with about 6 attachments) from Halfrauds. It has changed the all the plugs twice in my car without too much hassle.

Get a short 3/8" wobbly bar extention from Halfrauds, it allows the socket just enough movement to make the job sooo much easier, also remove the rubber liner as per last post.

Thanks chaps, will visit Helfrauds tonight and pick up a 3/8ths UJ and a short 3/8ths wobbly extension, that plus the stuff I already have should do it.

You won't need the UJ just the wobbly extention.

Local dealer suggested two spark plug sockets stacked on top of each other...

Have you tried doing them from underneath, put the car on wheel ramps, It is a bugger of a job, just as well the plugs are long life.
