Default when is rich too rich??

got a slight query for those in the know out there.....i know these cars run a bit rich but just how rich,im asking because quite ofte when i pull up at a junction i get a wiff of fuel which is easily noticable, there are no leaks and the car runs fine,no hesitation on acceleration or anything, boosts ok too, idle is rock solid as well, and im getting what i think is average fuel consumption at about 280 to a trankfull of optimax....its a my00 import wagon by the way if it makes a difference........so do any others notice this rich mixture on yours?

I would be happy to get 280miles on a full tank, I only manage 200-220 tops.
I am not sure if the wagons have a larger fuel tank though?

My 94 jap wagon has 60 litre tank. I get about 240 miles to it, 22 mpg

Rich is safer and cooler for the combustion areas, what mods do you have that could affect it - uprated fuel pump / regulator, bigger injectors, etc. or is it near std?

In cold damp weather, during the warm up phase, I sometimes get strong petrol whiffs in my standard UK bugeye - most noticeaable when coming to a stop and starting away again. Since the start of warmer, dryer weather, never a sign of the problem. Local dealer took a look last winter, but no leaks or anything to explain it. It's a real puzzler. I've given up - and accept it now in the same way as the occasional clutch judder which tends also to happen in the same circumstances.
