Default Easing off the boot lid spring tension..

I've just fitted a Spec C Carbon spoiler and the decrease in weight from the STI one means the boot flies up on to the stops when I open it with the remote..

Now, apart from the bleedin obvious about not using the remote , can you adjust or ease of the spring tension so it's not as brutal?

I'm afraid you can't alan, seems daft, and kind of defeats the object, but when i put the small lip on my boot, i bolted about 2lbs of lead inside the boot lid..... daft eh!
I even tried removing one of the torsion springs.... then the boot wouldn't hold itself up DOh!

I've just had a look in mine, Al ! I can see a few points where we could fix a small spring to come into tension as the bootlid gets to fully open. Also, there is a small rubber grommit which absorbs the impact as the boot gets to its stops. It would be easy to add a block of high density foam to soften the blow.

We'll look into it sometime. Give me a call

The WRX tea tray spoiler is much lighter than the STi one. When you buy a Scoobie accessory STi spoiler from the dealer to fit to your WRX it comes with a new pair of stronger "torsion springs" to compensate for the extra weight.

Sounds like you should try fitting a pair of standard WRX torsion springs. As they're only bit of bent steel shouldn't be more than a couple of quid.... Or find someone who's upgraded as above and take the old ones off their hands.

If what Chelspeed says is right, then maybe we can just swap the springs (as well as everything else )

Sorry for the late reply but yes u, need to swap over springs( the wrx items have less tension) so Al ur boot lid will not fly up to the sky and Dave urs will not slam shut, but this is not easy as it sounds as the springs have alot of tension in them, if u need some more info then give us a shout, oh there are two springs to change, if any of u peeps have the subaru accessory book u will see what exactly is needed for an up grade to an sti item and opposite for a wrx one....
