Default Wheel Bearing

Hi All

Just a quick one!

My rear near side wheel bearing has started to hummm like a good'n. Took to my usual Mechanic and he said that you need a special tool to do the job which he didnt have. Is this true?

Also he said I may also need a new hub because I have driven it like this for a few days?

Subaru just quoted £276.27! This seems mega steep to me!

Any comments or facts or suggestions?

Thanks

Ok thanks that makes me feel a bit better!

He did spend near enough three hours trying to get it out but I have booked it in at another local garage on Tuesday. I wont drive it until then and keep my fingers tightly crossed!

Would take it to Xtreme but dont want to risk the 2 hour drive and cause more damage.

Cheers!

Oh and doubt your hub is buggered, but the stub axle maybe. I was running mine for several hundred miles, didnt really notice until after a trackday when it started making noises. The stub axle was all pitted and worn away - new one was required then. (£50 frm breakers)

I got a complete hub, bearing and carrier from Grade A for about £50 a lot less hassle.

just thought a subaru garage should also fit a spedi sleeve on to the drive shaft to make the seal a tighter fit to stop ingress of road filth

It's not a difficult job to change the complete hub.
