Default Is the heat shield needed

Yo Yo Yo,

Following to my other post on the board, i have had my MY97 returned after rebuild with ou thte heat shield fitted over the turbo, and was told, he broke the brackets which hold it in place, and imports dont have them, so there not needed.

Is this true, or should i get him to refit it, as it was when he receivied it from me.

Apart from that, i am happy so far with the rebuild, which was just over £2K mark. Which my other post on here tells you more. Anyone wanting his number let me know, and i will pass it on. He is based in the Maidstone area, and collects also.

Regards Douglarse.

my import has one! so someone is lieing! ;-)

If you dont have it then it will just put more heat under the engine which aint a good thing (think thats right :-s)

Hmmm

Have still got the shield, but none of the holes line up with it, so i can not see how it fits.Unless he did not put the brackets on.

So i am still very unsure if i need it.

Douglarse.

If its the same as the newage, the downpipe is very close to the steering column rubber joint? and would melt if not shielded and wrapped

The bracket fits on the top two bolts of the down pipe and they do keep the heat out of the engine bay, i would tell them to refit it .

Imports certainly have...... and its essential - Heatsoak killing the engine performance and not to mention potentially killing off other parts near the Turbo

Sounds like the person who took it off and told you this stuff is a complete muppet..........

Up to now hes done a top job on the engine, although its only done 235 miles since its rebuild. Thing is when i offer up the shield there seems to be no way to fix it back in place. is there fixed brackets on the turbo, or l shaped ones that bolt on first then on to plate.

there should be a bracket on the top 2 bolts where the turbo joins the downpipe this has holes in it for 3 bolts then theres 2 holes down where the airbox is but back a little 1 on the down pipe it self and the last 1 on the end of the heat shield under the the down pipe straight down from the hole on the down pipe if any of that makes sense
