why do some cars disslike vta d/v's?
i have a 93wrx and have allways had a re-circ d/v but today tryed a bailey vta. arround town the car drove smooth as normal. at bigger speeds 60-70 down the motorway the dv would hiss constantly realy loud and would only shut up when on boost? i have no boost guage so i dont know what is what. the car did feel a lot slower. also the valve is open when the car is ticking over. is this right? or have i been "ebay scammed" and the vlave is buggerd?

i am using stock boost!
As already mentioned you need a stronger spring - I have seen this problem before when a Bailey DV was used

the ive cured the hissing thing at speeds. i fitted a 1mm washer to load the spring a little more and used a small amount of wd40 on the piston. i poped the bonnet and watching the dv its open whilst ticking over right? then tickled the throttle from in the bonnet. as i do this the valve shuts but when the revs drop down to tick over the car nealy ( and sometimes does) stall/s. as the cars trying not to stall the d/v is closing to provide a seal. once the revs have settled it stayes open but why is my car struggling? help!

If the Dump Valve is opening on idle (vacuum) air will be entering here which will be bypassing the MAF sensor so this air will not be accounted for thus the idle will 'hunt' giving the lumpy running/stall.
As I said above the spring needs to be much stronger to hold the dump valve shut on idle and whilst the engine is in vacuum otherwise you will have the symptoms you are experiencing
