Default While engine is out, should I do some upgrades?

Engine is out for a head gasket fix.

I've been thinking, while the engine is out, and the turbo is off, etc etc. it might seem sensible to do some upgrades / maintenance while the lump is easier to work on ?

My initial thought was .. Replace the clutch , as it just "makes sense" while lump is out.

I'm pretty naieve on this, but .. I'm not in a big rush.

Ideas ?
- Replace the turbo ? (Mine is a TD04). If I do .. what with , and what power increase can I expect ?
- Other ideas lads ?

Cheers - Mark

Hi

If you are going to upgrade the turbo to something bigger, then it would advised to change your ecu for something like Apexi fc(£700 ish mapped). The 97/98 models are difficult to get mapped on their original ecu. You could risk running the new turbo without any other ecu modifications but you would need to monitor the AFR, boost and Knock levels to make sure you aren't stressing the engine too much

Change the flywheel to a lighter one, I reckon 6-8kg is best, I have a 4.5kg one and I think it is a tad too light.

Are they the blue ones I've seen occasionally ?

What is the (rough) cost of doing them all.

Do they have any benefits other than cosmetic ?

Only key aspects I can think of while engine is out is:

Cams
Pistons and Rods upgrade
and as you are getting the head gasket changed you should look at ARP rod bolts which may stop the head going again

Most other things can be done while the engine is in place - with no issues
