Default MAX boost on bugeye WRX

Whats the safest max boost it will run at currently 1.3 bar when underload. its
running vf35 turbo with injectors, fuel pump intercooler etc and ecutek.

Is it safe to take it higher or can i kill the engine?

Lord Bass,

I run 1.45 bar peak with 1.4 bar held on my MY01 WRX BUT it has been mapped to do so safely.

Lord Bass,

Car has done 60k mile with 30k of those being 350bhp or above.

No problems with reliability and still an everyday car for both myself and my wife

The mapper said he can up the boost but there is a chance that one or more pistons may fail evenually. anyone had any experience of too much boost killing an engine?

raising anything above stock levels will always increase the risk of this anyway....

i tried starting a thread on "how do you strengthen a UKWRX engine" but at the mo no answers!! if you want to run a high level of boost then ultimately you will need stronger pistons and rods id say.

im sure a fair few people have killed engines due to excessive boost though.

If your mapper knows his stuff he would have set the boost to run at a safe level with your current mods. Simply cranking up the boost with out supporting mods will only cause one thing IMHO and that isn't a good thing

Mine only runs approx 1.2 bar held peaks at 1.35 sometimes (maybe slightly less as I'm told the defis overread) but this is good for 316 BHP and most importantly safe and reliable.

Ninnybobs, have you uprated your clutch too? I'm thinking of bigger power for my MY03 WRX and was wondering if this is necessary?

Cheers,

Graham

an exedy stage 1 or 2 (but probably a 2) should suffice on an AP unit....i will be going for an exedy when mine finally gives up the ghost!
